Genesis G70 sedan walks the performance-luxury line as adroitly as the old guard while displaying a spirited attitude of its own. The Korean upstart is seven years into its first generation but a mild refresh for 2022 brought its looks in line with the current Genesis design language, and a new, 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder arrived in 2024. Dramatically improved over the unspectacular previous 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, the new engine breathes new life into the base model, but it’s still the performance of the 365-hp turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 that elevates the G70 to top-class sports sedan status. Of course, making it onto the A-list also requires poise and accouterments, and the G70 delivers on both counts. It’s got svelte, muscular exterior styling, a posh interior, and an agile chassis putting it in league with the BMW 3-series and Audi A5 Sportback. But it also has a quiet side, and settles into long highway slogs with ease, ensconcing passengers in comfort.
What’s New for 2025?
Updates for 2025 are limited to the addition of a new Burleigh Blue Matte exterior finish.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2025 Genesis G70 starts at $43,850 and goes up to $56,100 depending on the trim and options. The G70 remains a value with either engine. The Sport Advanced 3.3T model has long been our recommendation, based partially upon the slight disappointment the old turbo 2.0-liter four triggered in our otherwise well-loved 2019 G70 long-termer. But that engine is history, replaced by a new 2.5-liter turbo four in 2024. While we haven’t track-tested it, we did drive it back-to-back with the 3.3T and came away impressed. The 3.3T Sport Advance models, in addition to bringing more power, also include a standard sunroof, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seating, an upgraded audio system, and more, as well as opening the door to a limited-slip rear differential which isn’t available with the four-cylinder. That makes the 3.3T an easy choice for a not-very-large upcharge.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The base G70 2.5T features a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that sends 300 horsepower through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels; all-wheel drive is optional. Outright thrills are still reserved for the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 model, with its 365 ponies. Regardless of the powertrain configuration, the G70 has expertly balanced ride-and-handling characteristics. Its suspension smooths out uneven surfaces, and the sedan remains composed during spirited cornering sessions. The more powerful 3.3T has the benefit of adaptive dampers that allow the driver to firm up the ride if necessary but every G70 we’ve driven did a remarkable job of sending information to the driver’s hands. Its steering feedback is precise and pleasant, with adjustable effort available by switching among the multiple drive modes.

The 365-horsepower twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 G70 hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds in C/D testing, bettering many of its German rivals. With the 300-hp 2.5-liter turbo four, the G70 hit 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
The G70’s new 2.5-liter turbo four isn’t as fuel-efficient as the 2.0-liter it replaces. For 2025, the rear-wheel drive four-cylinder earns 21 mpg city and 29 highway, down by 1 mpg in both city and highway from the old engine. With all-wheel drive, the G70 2.5T is rated at 20 mpg city and 28 highway. We’ll have to wait to know its real-world highway mpg until we can test one on our 75-mph fuel economy route. The EPA rates the twin-turbo V-6 at 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 23 mpg highway for the all-wheel drive. When we tested the flagship 3.3T on our highway route, we recorded an impressive 29 mpg. For more information about the G70’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Sitting in a G70 is a luxury experience even beyond the inviting materials, decorative stitching, solid switchgear, and excellent build quality. Driver-centric ergonomics and clear, intuitive controls indulge driving enthusiasts. At the same time, there’s no pandering to enthusiasts with fake carbon-fiber bits or a flat-bottom steering wheel. Getting in, however, is slightly compromised by the position of the driver’s seat, set back next to the B-pillar. The front seat provides a nice balance between comfort and sport but legroom for the rear seats is tight and compromised further because there’s not much space under the front seats for rear-seat riders’ feet. Interior cubby storage includes a useful tray at the front of the center console— perfect for smartphones and other small items. Unfortunately, the door pockets are small, and the center console bin lacks an organizer. We managed to fit five carry-on bags in the G70’s trunk, and 14 total with the rear seat folded.
